Low Maintenance

There are three main types of low-maintenance deck products:

  1. Composite deck products are produced by combining recycled plastics with recycled or waste wood, thus saving trees and reducing landfill requirements. Some manufacturers use rice hulls as a filler instead of wood fibre.
  2. Capped composite decks are also constructed with recycled plastics and wood, but also include a plastic cap on the outside of the composite deck boards. This cap makes the deck boards easier to keep clean, and prevents the growth of mould on the surface of the deck boards.
  3. PVC decks use only plastic ingredients, with no wood filler. This increases the cost of the products, but allows manufacturers to add colour streaks, and to use colour combinations which make the man-made products look more like real wood. PVC decks come in a myriad of colour and texture combinations, with non-slip surfaces, and won't crack, peel, or warp.
